Yota Devices’ dual-screen Android handset the YotaPhone has gone on sale in Europe.
The smartphone features a 1280 x 720-resolution LCD screen on one side, and an e-ink display for reading e-books on the other.
Yota Dual Screen Mobile the e-ink panel, the first to ever feature on a smartphone, will also serve the user automatic news and social media updates, as well as notifications, appointment reminders and more.
Powered by a 1.7GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, the YotaPhone runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and features a 13-megapixel camera on the rear, as well as an HD snapper on the front.
“The typical user picks up and activates their smartphone more than 150 times a day. Why? Because users worry that messages or information they need or want are hidden behind their phone’s black screen,” said Yota Devices CEO Vlad Martynov.
“You can save anything on the always-on display from a map to boarding pass. Information like a missed call or meeting reminder, stays on the always-on screen until it is no longer needed.”
The YotaPhone is available to order in Russia, Austria, France, Spain and Germany now, priced at €499 (£413). It will arrive in the UK in January next year.
