Importance of shab e barat:
Mid-Sha’ban is the 15th day of the Muslim month of Sha’ban. Laylatul Bara’ah is the night preceding the 15th day of Shaban. We the Muslims awake all night to worship our God and pray for forgiveness for our whole sins. Prophets Sayings about the month of Shaban:
Hazrat Ali said that he has heard from the Holy Prophet (PBUH) to offer prayer during the night of 15 Shaban and observe fast the next day as ALLAH appears on the sky after the sunset and asks till the morning that if there is someone who is seeking my forgiveness or needs livelihood? Is there someone who is trouble so I can get him out of it?
Observing fasts in the month of Shaban is sacred after the month of Ramadan. Hazrat Ayesha has said that she has not seen the Holy Prophet (PBUH) observing fast so enthusiastically in any other except Ramadan as in the month of Shaban, especially on the 15th of Shaban.
Hazrat Anas has reported that somebody asked from the Holy Prophet (PBUH) which month is the most sacred to observe fasts other than the month of Ramadan. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) replied, “Shaban.”
The Holy Prophet (PBUH) has told that the person who observes three fasts in the month of Shaban and offers Darood on me (Holy Prophet (PBUH)), ALLAH forgives all his past sins and increases his livelihood.
The Holy Prophet (PBUH) further says that
ALLAH forgives as many Muslims during this night as the number of hair on the sheep of “Bani Ka’ab”.
We should follow the following guidelines as described by the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
• We should pray for everyone during our prayers on the night of 15th Shaban.
• We should forgive each other and make a resolve that from now onwards we shall take special care of the rights of other human beings.
• The method practiced by the Holy Prophet (PBUH) (PBUH) is to offer 8 raka’at and recite Ayat ul Qursi, Surah Ikhlas Fifty times after Surah Fateha.
Conclusion:
Every Muslim should offer Navafil and observe fast so ALLAH almightily forgives them and bestow His blessings upon all the Muslims. We should also spread this message to the other Muslim brothers and sisters so that they can also be among the beneficiaries of the ALLAH’s forgiveness and mercy. Children should be motivated and advised by the parents to take part in the prayers and observe fasts on 15 Shaban.
Our society is gradually moving away from all these Islamic rituals and festivals which had been the shining stars of Muslim history over the past many centuries. This has also caused a tendency to shift society away from religion in an overall way. This era demands to revive the religious teachings in society so that we can get rid of the contemporary evils in society these days.
